ported!

yea, thats right! my number from nextel is now being used (owned?) by cingular. what was scary was that I got my phone yesterday and I called up to get it activated and have my number ported over, but I was told I had to talk to a special department that handled porting over phones. Well being on hold for 45 minutes isn't usual so I hung up and called cingular again (only bad experience to date). The guy that answered told me I had to go in a store to do the porting and he was from Rantoul and suggested I go to the corporate store in Savoy, right by Savoy 16 theaters :) Went there today, and had to call nextel to get my passcode to port over, which was similar to a passcode I had on it, but with 0000 appended to it. Got the porting going through the system and the guy was amazed that it went through and worked in a few minutes. I called my own number, from my NEW phone and my OLD phone showed itself being called, usually it goes to voicemail if you call your own number. About 3 hours later, I had a text message saying that porting was complete, and yes I couldn't use my nextel phone again, no service. From what I had heard of porting taking a few days and having to walk around with 2 phones, I was skeptical, but it worked fine for me, well so far... I'll wait till the bills roll in to see what they say... yay for new cell service from cingular :) need to read manual and play with wireless web...
